Promotional Requirements for 5th to 4th Gup (Green Belt)

Candidates’ Basic Requirements

To qualify for grading, candidates must have attended class at an officially recognised ITSDF club for a period of not less than thirty one-hour sessions prior to the grading.

Candidates must be able to execute powerful techniques through correct conditioning of the striking areas on the hands and feet. Persons below the age of 16 and above 65 are exempt from this requirement. Women may comply with this regulation at their own discretion.

A. GENERAL KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS

The candidate must know:

The five basic principles of Tang Soo Do practice, being:

  1. Be loyal to your country.
  2. Obey your parents and elders.
  3. Respect your instructors and seniors.
  4. Self-control.
  5. Never misuse your Art.

The reasons why balance, speed, power, mental application and proper concentration are important in executing techniques.

B. DEMONSTRATION OF ABILITY
BASIC TECHNIQUES (Kee Cho)

Hand techniques
Reverse knife hand low block, Attack and defence combinations using the hands

Foot techniques
Circular outside to inside kick, Front pushing kick

FORMS (Hyung)

Pyung Ahn Sam Dan, Chil Sung IL Ro

ONE-STEP SPARRING AND FREE FIGHTING
C. BREAKING TECHNIQUE (Kyok Pa)

Candidate must be able to demonstrate a skillful and correct circular outside to inside kick against a three-quarter inch thick breakable board. Women and students below 16 years of age on the day may demonstrate against a half-size board. In addition to the above requirements, the examiner may ask candidates to perform techniques from previous grading examinations.
